women's track athlete from springfield high school right here in montgomery county. christine rigusters is charged with disguising herself in traditional muslim robes to snatch a 5-year-old girl from a philadelphia school. our scott broom is in white oak, maryland, tonight. >> reporter: christine rigusters is a 2011 graduate of spring brook high school who made her mark here on the track team but who was accused in court in philadelphia today of a horrible crime. among the charges against rigusters is kidnapping and child rape after she was questioned thursday about a disturbing january 14th incident targeting a 5-year-old elementary school girl. rigusters described by police as a daycare worker is accused of dressing in a traditional muslim costume to pose as the victim's mother in order to check the child out of a philadelphia elementary school. 18 hours later the little girl was found abandoned in a park. she'd been sexually assaulted. the child is being haled now as a courageous hero for leading investigators eventually to the house where rigusters was arrested. among the clues, th

"today in the bay's" christine smith joins us. what can you tell us so far? >> i got a brief update from police and i can tell you the streets around 12th and maple are blocked off as they continue the investigation. there was an officer-involved shooting. a pittsburgh police officer was shot. the good news is he's already been treated and released from the hospital. it started around 11:30 last night. police are telling us two officers tried to contact a suspect. they are not saying what with a they were contacting him for. we can tell you they're saying he had a very long criminal history of guns and drug violations. he also had warrants out for his arrest. they're telling us when the officers tried to contact the suspect, he ran and turned around and fired at the two officers. one of the officers was hit. both of the officers including the wounded one, were able to hire back. they hit the suspect. he was taken to the hospital. he's in stable condition this morning. a 30-year-old from oakley. police say at this point they are not looking

it with his own eyes. he'll describe it in a minute. but first, christin ayers talked to astronomers tonight. christin? >> reporter: that's right. scientists tell me tonight that the streak they saw across the sky was like lie what's called a small sporadic meteor. that means it was not part of a larger meteor shower. report started coming in at 7:42 this evening. people calling in at kpix 5 to tell us they saw it. the american meteor society had at least 20 reports on it website. and they said it was seen all across the west coast, from seattle all the way down to big sur. lots of those reports pouring in all evening. astronomers are telling us these types of meteors are not all that uncommon, but the fact that the asteroid happened in russia simply has more people watching the skies tonight. and kpix 5 reporter david jackson joining us now. you saw it with your own eyes? >> reporter: i sure did, christin. it was mighty bright. i've seen plenty of meteors over the years and i don't recall seeing one with such a tail and quite as bright a
